There are many species of grassland rats in Inner Mongolia, such as the Alxa yellow rat, which lives in grasslands and semi-desert environments and is diurnal. The red-cheeked chinchilla lives in grasslands and desert environments and is mainly active during the day. The long-tailed yellow squirrel mainly inhabits the savanna area on the edge of the Gobi Desert and is active in the morning and evening.
The gray marmot lives in a mountainous grassland environment with gentle slopes. Mongolian marmots live in steppe areas and feed mainly on grasses, but also other herbs and shrubs.
