There are 5,000 purple-blue macaws in China in 2022. The purple-blue macaw is the largest member of the parrot family, with a body length of up to 1 meter and a weight of more than 1.5 kilograms. Their bright blue feathers and huge, hook-like beaks make them particularly eye-catching. The beak is hooked, the upper jaw has movable joints, and the base of the beak has a wax film. It has a muscular tongue and is good at imitating the sounds of other birds and human speech. The legs are short, strong, and toed, suitable for climbing life. The feathers are gorgeous with pink down feathers.
Purple-blue macaws like to move in open and semi-open habitats. Avoiding year-round wet forests, which are often relatively dry, prevents the growth of tall, closed-canopy tropical forests. They live in a variety of habitats, including deciduous woodlands, palm groves rich in stone fruits, and palm groves in the Pantanal. The Pantanal is a particularly important habitat for macaws, providing a lush oasis in southern Brazil.
