The incident of mealworms eating people began in late February 2014. Taipei restaurant Din Tai Fung, artist Jam Hsiao, lawyer Gu Lixiong and his assistants have successively received threatening letters. Some of the letters contained mealworms and ghost papers. , after forensic comparison, it was found that this case was related to many intimidation cases in Changhua County.
Subsequently, threatening letters were received one after another in other places. In the future, there were a total of 27 cases in various places, including 14 cases in Taipei City and 13 cases in Changhua County. Of the 13 cases in Changhua County, 6 were from police units and 7 were from members of the public. On March 11, 2014, the police arrested Lai Jinxian, a wanted criminal in a sexual assault case in Kaohsiung, and transferred him to the Taichung District Prosecutor's Office for investigation and handling.
