A serious hunter bred in Germany. Except for the breeds bred in Bavaria, their ancestors are all British terriers including Welsh terriers and fox terriers. A relatively small dog, it is suitable as a family companion dog, car travel companion dog and wild hunting dog. But it is still a working dog and is famous for its sensitive nose. The coat is ordinary, thick and dense, with two types: hard hair and short hair. The breed is capable of almost any hunting activity and can be trained to follow blood trails to injured game, as well as provoke and retrieve birds. Barking can be used to drive and corner wild boars when hunting, and despite their small size, they are formidable opponents for larger prey such as bears and mountain lions.
