How many days after birth can a puppy eat?

Pet Knowledge
Puppies can usually start eating soft soaked milk cake dog food after one month of age. Breast milk is needed from birth to one month old. Dog breast milk contains more fat and protein as well as maternal antibodies, which provide nutrition and protection for puppies. When puppies are eating, they can also add pet-specific goat milk powder to supplement nutrition. Post-weaning is a critical moment in a dog’s growth period, and it is necessary to prevent malnutrition in the dog.

Puppy feeding suggestions:

After the puppy is one month old, you can soak a small amount of milk cake dog food in warm water for a period of time until it is soft, then pour out the soaked water and give it to the puppy. Dogs use soaked food. Feed in small amounts and multiple times every day, preferably 4-6 times a day. Eat small meals frequently to avoid causing indigestion or increasing gastrointestinal burden in puppies. It is not recommended to feed dogs the next day’s dog food. It is best to eat fresh dog food. Dog food that has been soaked for a long time will easily deteriorate. If the puppy has soft stools or diarrhea at this time, some probiotics can be added to the food to regulate the gastrointestinal tract and help the dog's defecation return to normal.

Precautions for feeding puppies:

It is not recommended to eat other snacks during this period, mainly milk cake dog food. Milk is not suitable for dogs to drink because it can cause lactose intolerance in dogs and cause diarrhea in dogs. After the dog reaches three months of age, it can be fed with hard food, such as milk cake dog food or puppy food. It does not need to be soaked. Because when the puppies are three months old, their teeth have finished growing, their digestion ability is relatively strong, and they have begun to enter the tooth replacement stage. At this time, the dog will need to grind its teeth. You can use teething snack toys, but you should also use them in small amounts to avoid gastrointestinal discomfort if eating too much. Alternatively, you can use teething toys.
