Hard lumps in the breasts of female cats after weaning may be caused by milk engorgement or bacterial infection. If you want to alleviate this situation, the owner can use a warm towel to apply hot compress to the female cat for about 10-15 minutes every day, and at the same time, gently massage the female cat's breasts with both hands to help eliminate the lumps. Generally, if you stick to this method for about a week, the breast lump will disappear. If there is no change for a long time, you need to take the cat to the pet hospital for examination and treatment in time.
1. Milk engorgement
If the female cat does not discharge the milk in time after weaning, it will cause milk engorgement, and the milk will agglomerate and form hard lumps. In this regard, the owner needs to help the female cat expel the milk in time. You can use a warm towel to apply hot compress to the cat's breast for ten to fifteen minutes every day, which can relieve the female cat's milk engorgement.
2. Bacterial infection
If a female cat bites her nipples by a kitten during breastfeeding, causing bacterial infection, breast lumps will appear. In this case, you can also use a hot compress with a towel to promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis. If the hot compress still does not subside, it is recommended to take the cat to the pet hospital for diagnosis and treatment in time to find out the cause and treat it promptly to avoid delaying the condition.
Note: After the mother cat is weaned, the kitten cannot be allowed to nurse again, because the amount of mammary gland secretion is more closely related to the stimulation caused by the kitten’s sucking. Only by completely stopping breastfeeding , without causing any stimulation to the mammary glands, the mammary glands will slowly shrink and weaning can be successfully completed.
