Watery eyes in cats may be caused by diet, eye irritation, eye infection, nasolacrimal duct obstruction, other eye diseases, etc. During the treatment process, the owner needs to follow the veterinarian's advice, give the cat medicine on time, clean the eyes, etc., to help the cat recover as soon as possible. In addition, owners also need to pay attention to the cat's emotional changes and provide adequate care and companionship.

1. Food problems:

If a cat eats food high in oil, salt, and fat for a long time, it may cause increased eye secretions and tears. In addition, food allergies may also cause edema and watery eyes in cats.

2. Eye irritation:

Cats’ eyes are very sensitive. If foreign objects such as hair, dust, insects, etc. enter the eyes, or are irritated by chemicals, smoke, etc., they will Provoke tears. In addition, trichiasis is also a common irritant. Eyelashes that continue to grow into the eyes can irritate the eyeballs and cause cats to shed tears.

3. Eye infection:

Cat’s eyes may be infected by bacteria, viruses or fungi, causing eye inflammation, pain and tearing. Common viral infections, such as feline herpesvirus and feline calicivirus, may cause upper respiratory tract infection symptoms, including conjunctivitis and tearing.

4. Nasolacrimal duct obstruction:

Some cats have short nasolacrimal ducts that are easily blocked, especially short-nosed cats like Garfield cats. Once the nasolacrimal duct is blocked, tears cannot be discharged from the nasolacrimal duct normally and can only overflow from the corners of the eyes, forming tear stains.

5. Other eye diseases:

Eye diseases such as glaucoma and cataracts may also cause edema and tearing of the cat’s eyes. These diseases require prompt medical treatment.

If the cat has watery eyes, it is recommended to take the cat to the veterinarian for examination in time to find out the specific cause and provide corresponding treatment. At the same time, owners should also pay attention to the cat's daily diet and eye hygiene, clean the cat's eye secretions regularly, and keep the cat's living environment clean and hygienic.
