Pet Knowledge
This article is provided by Veterinarian Dr. Matthew Thompson
Half of the cat's beard is broken off, which may be due to normal hair loss, or it may be caused by malnutrition, skin disease, etc. You need to focus on observation, and also pay attention to whether there are skin diseases around the cat's mouth. If you find that the cat's beard often breaks, it is recommended to take the cat to a pet hospital as soon as possible. In addition, a cat's whiskers mainly play a role in balance and measurement. If one or two are broken, it will generally not affect the cat's normal life and will grow back.

1. Normal hair loss

First of all, when a cat enters old age, its beard will gradually turn white, break and fall off. This is because the cat’s metabolism declines as it ages. It is a manifestation and a normal physiological phenomenon. Secondly, when young cats reach a certain stage of growth and development, their beards will fall off and then grow back. This is normal hair loss, similar to a cat's hair change, so owners don't need to worry too much.

2. Malnutrition

If the cat’s usual diet is relatively simple, it will lead to malnutrition, resulting in poor quality and breakage of the beard, and the cat’s physique Will also be thinner. In this regard, it is recommended that owners feed their cats more food rich in protein, vitamins and trace elements to increase nutrition.

3. Suffering from skin diseases

If the cat’s mouth is infected with bacteria and fungi, causing skin diseases, the cat’s constant scratching will cause the beard to break due to severe itching. Cats in this situation are usually accompanied by symptoms such as red skin, hair loss, and dandruff. They need to consult a pet doctor in time for medication. At the same time, the cat’s living environment must be kept clean and dry, and deworming should be done internally and externally.
