This article is provided by Veterinarian Dr. Isabella Davis
It may be a normal physiological condition for a puppy to sleep every day, or it may be caused by a lack of adaptability to the new environment, excessive exercise time, physical discomfort, etc. A dog's normal sleeping time is 14-15 hours. If the spirit, appetite and reaction are normal, it is normal and the owner does not need to worry. If the dog's mental appetite decreases significantly, it requires attention and the dog should be taken to the pet hospital for treatment immediately to avoid aggravation of the condition.

1. Normal physiological conditions

Dogs sleep much more than people, basically sleeping for more than ten hours every day, and puppies sleep even more than adult dogs , generally sleep about 15-20 hours a day. Therefore, if the puppy's mental appetite is normal and there are no other abnormalities, it is a normal physiological condition and the owner does not need to worry too much.

2. Not adaptable to the new environment

After the puppy changes to the new environment, because it is not adaptable to the new environment, it will become restrained and not interested in exercising. It seems I am very lethargic and like to lie down in one place to sleep. In this case, the owner does not need to worry. You can interact with the puppy more and it will get better after it becomes familiar with the environment.

3. Excessive exercise time

If you often take your puppy out to play recently, the puppy will exercise too much and consume too much energy, and it will become particularly sleepy. At this time, try not to disturb the puppy, let it have a good rest, and ensure the air circulation in the environment. Wait until the dog calms down, and then give the dog water and food to prevent it from causing gastrointestinal burden and making the puppy sick.

4. Physical discomfort

If the puppy’s sleeping time increases significantly and its mental appetite also decreases significantly, it may be caused by physical discomfort, such as a cold. , fever, gastroenteritis and other problems. In this regard, it is recommended that the owner take the puppy to the pet hospital for examination in time to determine the specific cause and then provide symptomatic treatment.
