A dog that suddenly starts drooling all the time may be caused by poisoning, oral disease, foreign matter in the throat, hot weather, rabies, etc. If the dog's mental state and appetite are not bad, it may be because it secretes a lot of saliva to dissipate heat in the hot summer. It is recommended that the owner provide enough drinking water and take the dog to a cool place to rest. However, if the dog’s symptoms are severe and there are abnormal symptoms such as listlessness, loss of appetite, vomiting, convulsions, etc., you need to seek medical treatment in time.

1. Poisoning

If your dog suddenly starts drooling, accompanied by symptoms such as convulsions, dilated pupils, foaming at the mouth, and shortness of breath, it is likely to be poisoned. In severe cases, Shock, death, etc. may even occur. Therefore, when a dog shows symptoms of poisoning, it is necessary to immediately take the dog to the pet hospital for examination to determine the specific toxicity, and then choose the corresponding detoxification drug treatment. If necessary, induce vomiting or gastric lavage treatment.

2. Suffering from oral diseases

When dogs suffer from oral diseases such as stomatitis, periodontitis, and oral ulcers, they will also drool all the time and also It will be accompanied by symptoms such as periodontal redness, swelling and pain, decreased appetite, and difficulty eating. In this regard, the owner can gently open the dog's mouth with his hands, check the condition of the oral mucosa and gums, consult a pet doctor to determine the specific cause, and then take corresponding treatment measures.

3. Foreign body in the throat

If there is a foreign body stuck in the dog's throat, the strong discomfort will cause the dog to drool all the time. In this case, it is recommended to take the dog to the pet hospital to remove it as soon as possible. Generally, if the stuck is relatively shallow, it can be taken out directly through the mouth. If the stuck is deeper, it usually requires a X-ray examination to see the specific location of the stuck foreign object. Removed surgically.

4. The weather is hot

Because the dog’s sweat glands are underdeveloped, when the weather is hot or the surrounding temperature is too high, the dog will open its mouth and stick out its tongue. The evaporation of saliva helps the body dissipate heat, resulting in constant drooling. At this time, as long as the dog has no other abnormalities, you can take the dog to a cool and ventilated place to rest, and prepare enough water. The dog will get better after a short rest.

5. Rabies

If the dog is drooling, it is also accompanied by photophobia, hydrophobia, and indiscriminate aggression. If the dog hits or twitches, it is likely that the dog has been infected with rabies. At this time, the owner must keep a safe distance from the dog to avoid being accidentally injured by the dog, and contact the relevant departments for handling.
