Cats that shed tears while eating may be caused by foreign body irritation, conjunctivitis, keratitis, upper respiratory tract infection, etc. If your eyes are irritated by foreign objects, it is normal to shed tears and there is generally no need to worry too much. If there are abnormal tears and other uncomfortable symptoms, such as shortness of breath, swollen and painful eyes, etc., it is recommended that the owner take the cat to a regular pet hospital in time to find out the cause and further treat it, otherwise it will easily affect the recovery of the disease.

1. Irritated by foreign objects

If food enters the eyes of a cat while eating, it will irritate the local mucous membrane and cause tears. This is normal and the foreign objects in the eyes need to be cleaned, such as using a mobile phone. Rinsing with clean water or saline can relieve the phenomenon of tearing. Generally, no medication is needed.

2. Conjunctivitis

It is mainly an inflammatory disease that occurs in the conjunctival tissue. It may be caused by bacterial infection and immune disease. It can cause symptoms such as eye redness, itching, increased secretions, etc. , tears may occur when eating, which can be treated with antibiotics under the guidance of a doctor.

3. Keratitis

Usually caused by exogenous and endogenous pathogenic factors, it can cause inflammation of the cornea, causing photophobia, tearing, excessive eyelid spasm, etc. Symptoms, if not treated in time, may cause corneal damage, affect normal vision, and cause vision loss. You need to follow the doctor's advice and use antibiotic eye drops to improve it, which will help the cornea return to normal.

4. Upper respiratory tract infection

Mainly caused by bacterial and viral infections, symptoms such as throat pain and difficulty swallowing may occur. As the disease progresses, the nasolacrimal duct may become blocked. If the condition causes tears, you need to take antibiotics and antiviral medications as directed by your doctor.
