Pet Knowledge
This article is provided by Veterinarian Dr. Henry Clarke
White discharge from the dog's urethral orifice may be caused by urinary tract infection, reproductive system diseases, estrus, etc. If the dog's spirit and appetite are normal, the secretions can be examined under a microscope to determine whether there are infections and pathogenic microorganisms. If there are pathogenic microorganisms and infection, oral antibiotics and topical sprays are required. Generally, improvement can be seen within a week of treatment.

1. Urinary tract infection

Dogs with urinary tract infection may produce mucus or purulent secretions. Urinary urgency, frequent urination, decreased urine output, painful urination, and urinary tract infection may also occur. Symptoms include bloody fluid, redness and swelling of the urethral orifice. When a dog's urinary tract infection is discovered or suspected, it is necessary to take the dog to the pet hospital for diagnosis and symptomatic anti-inflammation, sterilization, anti-infection and other treatments. If not treated in time, it may cause systemic infection and inflammatory reactions in dogs, leading to sepsis and other conditions.

2. Suffering from reproductive system diseases

If it is a female dog, white secretions will flow out of the vagina after pyometra, pelvic inflammatory disease and other obstetric diseases. If it is a male dog, white discharge will also appear after suffering from scrotal inflammation, orchitis and other reproductive tract diseases. It is recommended that the owner take the dog to the pet hospital for examination in time, and then provide symptomatic treatment after determining the specific cause.

3. Estrus

Dogs are in estrus, especially female dogs. During the estrus period, white or transparent secretions will flow out of the vagina, and the dog will also flow out for a period of time afterwards. red liquid. Therefore, when the dog is in heat, the owner can gently scrub the dog's vulva with clean warm water. The mat used by the dog should also be clean and soft in texture, which can prevent genital infections.
