Cats snoring while sleeping may be caused by incorrect sleeping posture, obesity, pharyngitis, rhinitis, influenza, tracheitis, adenoid hypertrophy, etc. If the sleeping position is incorrect or the body is too obese, snoring during sleep is normal. By adjusting the sleeping position and controlling the weight, it can gradually return to normal. If the body is also accompanied by symptoms such as sore throat, runny nose, sneezing, etc., then snoring is an abnormal phenomenon and needs to be treated with drugs and surgery. If necessary, it is recommended that the owner take the cat to a regular pet hospital for treatment.

1. Incorrect sleeping posture

If the cat often lies on its stomach while sleeping, it may compress the respiratory tract, affect normal breathing, and cause snoring. It can be improved by adjusting the sleeping position, usually lying on your back or side, to reduce damage to the respiratory tract and help control symptoms.

2. The body is too obese

If the cat is obese, a large amount of fat will accumulate in the neck, compressing the trachea, causing respiratory tract stenosis and causing snoring. It can be improved through weight loss methods, such as controlling the amount of food, walking, running, etc., which are beneficial to burning fat in the body and alleviating body obesity.

3. Pharyngitis

Usually caused by bacterial and viral infections, symptoms such as dry throat, itchy throat, and sore throat will appear. As the condition continues to worsen, it will lead to congestion of the nasal mucosa. and edema, resulting in decreased ventilation and causing snoring during sleep. You need to take antibiotics and antiviral medications as directed by your doctor.

4. Rhinitis

It is considered to be caused by contact with allergens and viral infection. Symptoms include runny nose, nasal congestion, nasal itching, etc. When the secretions in the nasal cavity continue to increase, it will affect normal breathing, causing snoring. You can take antiviral and antihistamine medications as directed by your doctor.

5. Influenza

It is mainly an acute respiratory infectious disease caused by influenza virus. Typical symptoms include high fever, headache, cough, body aches, etc. As the virus content in the body increases, , can cause upper respiratory tract mucosal edema, cause airway obstruction, cause shortness of breath, and cause snoring during sleep. Intravenous antiviral drug treatment can be carried out under the operation of a doctor.

6. Tracheitis

It is mainly an inflammation of the trachea and bronchial mucosa. The clinical symptoms are mainly cough and sputum. In severe cases, it can lead to abnormal enlargement of tonsils, compressing surrounding tissues and organs, causing obstruction, and causing snoring during sleep. Cough relievers, phlegm-reducing drugs and antibiotics need to be taken under the guidance of a doctor.

7. Adenoid hypertrophy

The adenoids are located at the junction of the top wall and the posterior wall of the nasopharynx, between the pharyngeal recesses on both sides. When the local area is repeatedly stimulated by inflammation , will cause adenoids to swell, causing breathing obstruction, causing shortness of breath and difficulty, and snoring will occur at any time when sleeping. Adenoidectomy treatment needs to be performed under the supervision of a doctor.

During the treatment, the cat’s physical condition needs to be observed at any time. If the symptoms are not controlled for a long time, you need to go to the hospital for treatment in time.
