Pharmacodynamics
Firocoxib is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that selectively inhibits epoxy Enzyme-2 (COX-2) mediates prostaglandin synthesis, thereby exerting antipyretic, analgesic, and anti-inflammatory effects. In an in vitro canine whole blood assay, firocoxib is approximately 380 times more selective for COX-2 than COX-1.
Pharmacokinetics
After oral administration to dogs at a dose of 5 mg/kg body weight, it is absorbed rapidly and the bioavailability reaches 36.9%±20.4 , the time to reach the peak (Tmax) is 1.25±0.85 hours, and the peak concentration (Cmax) is 0.52 (±0.22) μg/ml. Firocoxib is approximately 96% bound to plasma proteins. The half-life (t1/2) is 7.59 (±1.53) hours. Firocoxib is mainly metabolized in the liver via dealkylation and glucuronidation, and is eliminated through the bile and gastrointestinal tract.
[Indications]
It is used to relieve pain and inflammation caused by canine osteoarthritis and clinical surgery.
[Usage and Dosage]
