Cat paws at the ground before drinking water

Cats pawing the ground before drinking water may be because the water is not clean, so the cat will refuse to drink water in this way. In addition, because cats have sweat glands on their paws, cats scratch the ground before drinking water. They may also want to leave their own scent here so that they can find it later. Therefore, owners must develop the habit of changing drinking water every day to prevent changes in water quality from endangering the health of cats.

1. The water is not clean

Cats love to be clean and have very high requirements for drinking water. If the water provided to them is not clean, the cats may become confused when drinking water. There will be a digging motion with the front paws. Therefore, the owner can check whether there are foreign objects or odors in the cat's water, and replace the cat's water with fresh water to see if the cat still exhibits this behavior.

2. Leave a scent

Cats have a strong sense of territory, and they happen to have sweat glands on their paws, so they may use their paws to scratch the ground before drinking water. Leave your own scent, and at the same time mark that this is its territory and the water source belongs to you. Therefore, if it is a multi-cat household, the owner should pay attention to preparing several litter boxes for the cats.
