Pet Knowledge

Cats can take amoxicillin anti-inflammatory drugs, but they must be in dosages specifically for pets. Currently, there are pet-specific commercial drugs on the market with amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium as the main ingredient - Mobixin and Sono. Owners must not take these drugs. Give your cat the anti-inflammatory drug amoxicillin by yourself. The dosage of amoxicillin for humans is much higher than the dosage for pets. Do not self-administer the medicine to cause liver poisoning in cats

1. Application of amoxicillin

Amoxicillin, also known as amoxicillin, can be used for bacterial infections in cats and dogs. It is effective against specific Gram-positive bacteria and Gram-negative aerobic bacteria. It is effective against many obligate anaerobic bacteria and is a commonly used antibiotic in pets. The general dose of oral amoxicillin for cats is 10 mg/kg, which can be taken on an empty stomach or with food. Since the onset of action of amoxicillin is time-dependent, the blood concentration should be kept above the MIC most of the time. Missing a dose will cause serious insufficient efficacy. It is generally recommended to dose it 2-3 times a day. The dosage of amoxicillin for humans is much higher than the dosage for pets

II. Medication Precautions

1. The use of amoxicillin in pets is a veterinary prescription drug and should be discussed with a pet doctor. Used under guidance, it is commonly used for various skin infections, stomatitis (gum inflammation), urinary tract infections, respiratory infections and digestive tract infections.

2. It is strictly prohibited for people with allergies to contact. People and animals may be allergic to penicillin drugs. Cats allergic to amoxicillin are prohibited from contacting and using this product. If an allergy occurs, seek medical attention immediately and may be treated with epinephrine or steroids.

3. Use with caution on pregnant female cats.

4. Long-term use of amoxicillin may cause adverse reactions. Generally, the amoxicillin medication cycle prescribed by pet hospitals is 3-7 days, depending on the recovery situation. Amoxicillin affects intestinal flora and may cause damage to normal flora, leading to soft stools and diarrhea. If a cat develops soft stools or diarrhea after taking amoxicillin, the owner should contact the pet doctor immediately to report the situation and reduce the dosage or discontinue amoxicillin.
